      I see the trac item lists 1.3 as the Milestone for this fix.  Is it 
    realistic to think that this (hopefully small) change to OMPI will make 
    it into 1.3?  If not, I can probably resurect the removed APIs and delay 
    removal until 0.8.1, though I'd rather not if this can be avoided.
