Richard,

  Take a look in the examples and tests subdirectories for some simple 
programs that checkpoint w/ BLCR.  Also, since LAM/MPI includes support 
for checkpointing w/ BLCR, you can see their documentation and/or 
publications for the experience checkpointing unmodified MPI 
applications from somebody outside the BLCR development team.
