I am pleased to announce the availability of BLCR 0.8.0_beta4 from http://mantis.lbl.gov/blcr-dist/ Both source tarball and SRPM are available. The filenames and MD5 checksums are: 2747d2c067c88fbe1506874febb8e93c blcr-0.8.0_b4.tar.gz 4d066fbdaf9cf18e379a7cf0a3427689 blcr-0.8.0_b4-1.src.rpm We are getting closer to a final 0.8.0 release, but there is still one feature I am trying to merge. If I there are no new bugs found, then the next beta (#5) will be the last. I normally want a beta to go for 10 days without a problem report before going ahead with the final release. Though I am not sure how many days I'll need to get beta5 out, the 10-day waiting period is likely to fall in the period between Christmas and New Year (when I don't plan to be working). So, please be patient and expect that 0.8.0 will be released in early January. Relative to the previous beta, this release changes the following: + fix a problem with including libcr.h in C++ code + restore the "deprecated" interfaces that were scheduled for removal in 0.8.0 to satisfy some important legacy client codes + initial release of "Fault Tolerant Backplane" support. See the README.FTB file for information if you are interested. + fix a few bugs, including one causing kernel memory corruption Relative to the eventual 0.8.0 release, this Beta still lacks one minor feature and the HTML documentation may need additional updates. Based on our in-house testing, this release is considered stable (though ARM and PPC platforms are still designated as EXPERIMENTAL due to our inability to test them as well as i386 and x86_64). If you have reported a bug recently, especially if you've been told to expect a fix in 0.8.0, please try out this Beta release and let us know if your problem is fixed and especially if it is not. If you have run an earlier Beta and had no problems, you don't need to try this one unless you are feeling bored. If you *did* have a problem with a previous Beta of 0.8.0, please *do* try this one to see if there is still a problem (and *please* report it if there is). -Paul PS You are receiving this either because you are on the checkpoint_at_lbl_dot_gov list, because you've recently sent email to the list (or me directly) asking about BLCR status, or because our Bugzilla shows your interests in a bug fixed in this beta. -- Paul H.
